A bridge is a structure built to span physical obstacles without closing the way underneath such as a body of water, valley, or road, for the purpose of providing passage over the obstacle.   Until the end of the 18th Century, bridges were made out of timber, stone and masonry. Modern bridges are currently built in concrete, steel, fiber reinforced polymers (FRP), stainless steel or combinations of those materials.   Iron and Steel bridges are used today and most of the worlds major rivers are crossed by this type. The picture shows the first iron bridge in the world. A waterfall is a place where water flows over a vertical drop or a series of drops in the course of a stream or river. Waterfalls also occur where meltwater drops over the edge of a tabular iceberg or ice shelf   A cascade of water falling from a height, formed when a river or stream flows over a precipice or steep incline.   Waterfalls often form in the upper stages of a river where it flows over different bands of rock. It erodes soft rock more quickly than hard rock and this may lead to the creation of a waterfall . Formation of a waterfall : The soft rock erodes more quickly, undercutting the hard rock.   Waterfalls keep falling because rivers and streams keep flowing. The Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya date as far back as 1371 to the time of King Wickramabahu III. Today it attracts 2 million visitors annually. It is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids and includes more than 4000 species of plants, including spices, medicinal plants and palm trees.  This is the Giant Java Fig tree in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya, south east of Kandy, Sri Lanka. A sign at the base of this tree reads... (Java Fig) (Moraceae) species - Ficus Benjamina This is a large handsome tree indigenous to Malayasia and introcuded to Sri Lanka in 1861. The specimen here is over 100 years old and has spread over an area of about 2420 sq. meters.

The Nuwara Eliya Golf Club , founded in 1889, is one of the oldest golf clubs in Asia and probably the world and is enriched with a tradition and an ambiance, which is hard to equal. The Club is situated at the foot of Mount Pedro (Mount Piduruthalagala) and is surrounded by some of the finest tea gardens in Sri Lanka. The 18-hole course has a length of 6075 yards. The course is a testing par 71 consists of fairways, which are long and narrow, bordered by tall trees and dense shrubbery. Good positional play is required, and the terrain enfolds the golfer in a constant uphill and downhill trek with many water hazards. The grass on the greens is local, mixed with bluegrass. We welcome golfers of all ages and abilities.
