Tree under strong sun light

Image
Tree under strong sun light Trees combat climate change Excess carbon dioxide (CO2) caused by many factors is a building up in our atmosphere and contributing to climate change. Trees absorb CO2, removing and storing the carbon while releasing the oxygen back into the air. In one year, an acre of mature trees absorbs the amount of CO2 produced when you drive your car 26,000 miles. Trees clean the air Trees absorb odors and pollutant gases (nitrogen oxides, ammonia, sulfur dioxide and ozone) and filter particulates out of the air by trapping them on their leaves and bark. Trees provide oxygen In one year an acre of mature trees can provide enough oxygen for 18 people. Trees cool the streets and the city Average temperatures in Los Angeles have risen 6°F in the last 50 years as tree coverage has declined and the number of heat-absorbing roads and buildings has increased. Trees cool the city by up to 10°F, by shading our homes and streets, breaking up urb

House sparrow in a brown backround The house sparrow ( Passer domesticus ) is a bird of the sparrow family Passeridae, found in most parts of the world. A small bird, it has a typical length of 16 centimetres (6.3 inches) and a mass of 24–39.5 grams (0.85–1.39 ounces). One of about 25  species in the genus Passer , the house sparrow is native to most of Europe, the Mediterranean region , and much of Asia. Its intentional or accidental introductions to many regions, including parts of Australia, Africa, and the Americas, make it the most widely distributed wild bird. The house sparrow is strongly associated with human habitations, and can live in urban or rural settings. Though found in widely varied habitats and climates, it typically avoids extensive woodlands , grasslands , and deserts away from human development. It feeds mostly on the seeds of grai

This uncommon species breeds in hill rainforests, and to a lesser extent in drier woodlands, at altitudes between 500 and 2000 metres. The wintering areas are similar but include less well-wooded areas, and are generally at 750 to 1500 metres altitude. The Spot-winged Thrush is generally solitary, and like many Zoothera thrushes, can be quite secretive, especially in the dense undergrowth and bamboo clumps it favours.

the Eurasian or White Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia with its long black, flat bill ending in a broad "point" shaped tip      Unique in appearance is the Eurasian or White Spoonbill Platalea leucorodia with its long black, flat bill ending in a broad "spoon" shaped tip which may appear yellow.  Adult birds are all white except in breeding season when then develop a yellowish white crest, a red patch at the base of the throat and a beige "necklace".  In the photo, some of the birds have breeding plumage, and some do not.  Spoonbills  are found throughout India and Sri Lanka near rivers, lakes and marshes.  They feed by moving their bills in the water while opening and closing them.  They eat both plants and small animals.

Cat In The Dark Background

Image
Cat In The Dark Background Cat behavior includes body language , elimination habits, aggression, play, communication, hunting , grooming , urine marking , and face rubbing in domestic cats . It varies among breeds and individuals, and between colonies. Communication can vary greatly among individual cats. Some cats interact with other cats more easily than other cats. In a family with many cats, the interactions can change depending on which individuals are present and how restricted the territory and resources are. One or more individuals may become aggressive: fighting may occur with the attack resulting in scratches and deep bite wounds. A cat's eating patterns in domestic settings (homes) can be unsettling for owners. Some cats "ask for" food dozens of times a day, including at night, with rubbing, pacing, and meowing

Sri Lanka natural rubber industry

Image
Sri Lanka natural rubber industry   The rubber plantation in the land did not give a reasonable production to be economically viable for tapping. The production cost of crape rubber was very high, leaving only one third of the income as a profit. This did not cover even the interest of the loan that I took from the bank to buy the land.  I believed the rubber variety that has been planted in the Estate was a low yielding variety. The years of negligence at the early stage of plantations did not boost the healthy growth of the trees, and the trees became barren with very low yield. The Estate is on a rocky mountain with a thin layer of soil on the surface. This has further reduced the chances of root system of the trees to grow deeper to grow healthily. The constant rains in the area further reduced the monthly income. The average tapping days were reduced to 15 days in a month for last two years due to rain.

Mynah

Image
Common mynah on a tree The  myna  (also known as  mynah ) is a  bird  of the  starling   family  (Sturnidae). This is a group of  passerine  birds which are native to southern  Asia , especially  India . Several species have been introduced to areas like  North America ,  Australia ,  South Africa ,  Fiji  and  New Zealand , especially the  common myna  which is often regarded as an  invasive species . Often known as "Selarang" in Singapore, due to their high population located at the area. Mynas are not a natural group .  instead, the term  myna  is used for any starling in the Indian subcontinent, regardless of their relationships. This range was colonized twice during the  evolution  of starlings, first by rather ancestral starlings related to the  coleto  and  Aplonis  lineages, and millions of years later by birds related to the  common starling  and  wattled starling 's ancestors. These two groups of mynas can be distinguished in the more terrestrial

The Black-headed Oriole (Oriolus larvatus)

Image
The Black-headed Oriole (Oriolus larvatus) is an African passerine. It has a very striking appearance with a bright yellow body, contrasting black head   This species has an extremely large range, and hence does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the range size criterion (Extent of Occurrence <20,000 km2 combined with a declining or fluctuating range size, habitat extent/quality, or population size and a small number of locations or severe fragmentation). The population trend appears to be increasing, and hence the species does not approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population trend criterion (>30% decline over ten years or three generations). The population size has not been quantified, but it is not believed to approach the thresholds for Vulnerable under the population size criterion (<10,000 mature individuals with a continuing decline estimated to be >10% in ten years or three generations, or with a specified populat
