Orchids-peradeniya botanical garden

The Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya is located about 6 km away from Kandy. It is surrounded by the river Mahaweli on three sides.
It started as a pleasure garden of a Kandyan King in 1371. Now it is a major tourist attraction. More than 1.4 million foreign and national people visit Sri Lanka's botanic gardens every year. The Botanical Garden of Peradeniya is visited also by many schoolchildren and a lot of young couples in love.
